It is Hannah’s 8th Birthday tomorrow!!! It dawned on me that she had outgrown her party dress. I have wanted to try out The Party Dress by The Cottage Mama for quite a while now. It’s so cute, has a large size range and is even free! Excuse in hand I got to work and got this dress started and finished in 3 hours. Not too bad considering I had never sewn it before and that I had to print and tape the pattern too (all of 4 pages lol!).
The Party Dress by The Cottage Mama
Again I have used my ever expanding fabric stash, it still amazes me how kind so many people have been giving me fabric! They are both a woven cotton/blend a little heavier than quilting weight. The Party Dress by Cottage Mama has a lined bodice with a gathered skirt and a contrast hem band. It is actually surprisingly similar to my Betty Bodice Dress.
In place of buttons and loops I went for kam snaps. Making it easier to get on and off and quicker to get it finished in time too! I made a size 9 as Hannah measured pretty well exactly in between the 8 and 9. And at the rate kids grow I figured a little extra room was the better option!
I love the length of this dress. It is long enough that it will fit a long time as she grows, and also that she doesn’t need to wear leggings underneath. I think she has got past the upside on the monkey bars permanently stage. The original pattern has a sash which is rather cute. I think it is a little young for Hannah. However, it would make an excellent flower girl dress with the sash on!
And Hannah’s favourite part…you guessed it twirls!!! So if you are looking for a great free pattern, this one is definitely a great option. I see many more of these in my future, and I am sure that this one is going to get plenty of wear this summer.
