Who can resist a cute baby hat…certainly not me. When I came across the Trio of Baby Hats by Zaaberry I just had to test them out. Well that was 18 months ago but I have finally got around to making them! The above link will take to the Zaaberry blog Trio of Baby Hats Tutorial and Pattern.
Trio of Baby Hats by Zaaberry – Pattern Review
With this super simple pattern you have three rather cute options. A regular baby hat with a fold over cuff at the bottom, which can be unfolded as baby grows. The same regular baby hat with cute little ears and a knot top baby hat.
I love the simplicity of the standard baby hat. I especially like it in these gorgeous stripes! The sizing of the Trio of Baby Hats is 0-3 months and although I don’t have a baby that age to try them on, they look to be the right size.
Next up are the cute little ears! It just adds that little extra something doesn’t it. This technique will very handy when it comes to making costumes too.
But my personal favourite…it the top knot baby hat! I made this one by cutting up a merino jersey that had acquired some holes around the wrist cuffs. I love being able to still use some of the fabric to make something new. It feels so much better than throwing it all out. Don’t forget to remove any zips or buttons, I save them all for later.
All in all I think the Trio of Baby Hats sewing pattern by Zaaberry is very good free pattern. The hats turned out great, were super quick to make and will make great baby shower gifts too. The only thing I am not certain on is the internal seams rubbing against a newborn baby’s sensitive head. Might be more of an issue on the cuff which would be tighter than the top area. I think next time I would make a combination of the Ottobre Baby Beanie with an altered knot top from the Zaaberry Trio of Baby Hats.
